This weekend, Dan and I took another big step in our relationship. We went and looked at a car together.
Below is our current car, which we’ve affectionately named The Crimson Flame.
This car is a hand-me-down from my parents, it’s 10 years old, has well over 130,000 miles on it and is probably in its last year of life. There’s no air conditioner, no radio and the back is full of dents. But this is the car that I learned to drive in, and the only car I’ve ever driven since I got my license six years ago (with the exception of my mom’s car, which I only drove a few times and was then too scared to ever drive again because driving that thing was like trying to steer a boat!). I have more fond memories attached to this car than any other material possession I own, but as much as Dan and I both love her, we think it’s about time to say goodbye.
So this is the car we want to buy:
It’s a Nissan Cube and is totally frickin’ adorable. Now, I don’t know much about cars, but this one has a top safety rating, good milage, it’s incredibly comfortable and, best of all, it’s cheap. And people who do know a lot about cars have told me it’s a good choice. So we went to the Nissan dealer on Saturday to see this bad boy in person. Of course, the salesman was trying to get us to trade our current car in on the spot, but we were very adamant about not buying anything just yet.
We first need to get through the wedding and get our finances in order before we can even begin thinking about making such a large purchase, but it was a fun experience nonetheless. If we do buy the car, hopefully it’ll be by the end of the year and it’ll be the first major purchase that Dan and I will make together (other than renting our apartment and buying furniture). This is definitely one of those married-couple decisions that I look forward to making in the near future!
